Our
Head Coach
Matthew Ma
He is a former member of the Canadian
national team with 18 years of dragon
boat experience. In the first year, he
successfully led our team to win two
medals in C1 division of a dragon boat
competition. Our team achieved this
remarkable success despite training only
once a week during the 2024 season.

The dragon boat team has
helped many new immigrants
integrate into the community and
expand their social circles. He
mentioned that many teammates
share job-hunting tips and other
support, helping new immigrants
settle in. He added that the most
rewarding part is seeing initially
shy members make friends
within the team.
Hei
I am of Indian descent and joined
the team through a friend’s
invitation. I was already
interested in dragon boating, and
after joining, I enjoyed it even
more. Most teammates are from
Hong Kong and mainly speak
Cantonese, which can be a
language barrier, but they were
friendly and inclusive, often
teaching me fun Cantonese
phrases, so I never felt left out.
Shreya
At first, we worried about not
having enough preparation time,
differences in dragon boat
experience etc. But then we
found that the team had a great
atmosphere, and with friendly
guidance from experienced
members, the newcomers picked
things up quickly.
